John

AKA: The Big Cheese

Q:What’s your story?
A:I’m half cheetah, half bear, and half man. Yes, that’s three halves. Deal with it. I run things at CRC.
Q:Why do you run?
A:Cause I’m the baws.
Q:Where is your favorite place to run in the Springs?
A:Anywhere where I won’t get chased by a cougar. I hate when I have to kill them with my bare hands.

AKA: Pistol Pete

Q:What’s your story?
A:Originally from California, I attended Whittier College  where I competed in Cross Country and Track, then moving to Colorado for an internship at the Olympic Training Center and fell in love with the mountains. I jumped around to many different states, living in North Carolina, then Massachusetts, traveled around Europe for many months, then to Vermont and finally back to Colorado. I currently live in Manitou Springs and can be found running up Pikes Peak. Having a background and degrees in sport and athletics, I was naturally drawn to the CRC.
Q:Why do you run?
A:I run because my mother would not allow me to play football or any other contact sport. So, what else was a skinny kid to do but run. I found I was pretty good at it and have found my niche in running up and down mountains.
Q:Where is your favorite place to run in the Springs?
A:If I want to do a fast speed workout, I head to the Santa Fe Trail, but typically I migrate towards the mountains: Red Rocks, Garden of the Gods, Waldo and Williams’ Canyon, and Intemann Trail.

James

AKA: Special K

Q:What’s your story?
A:I moved to the Springs from Indianapolis about three years ago, my first summer here I met some of the staff, started running and hanging out with them. Then about a year ago stared working at the Colorado Running Company, I guess I figured that if I was going to hang  out there all the time I might as well get paid.
Q:Why do you run?
A:Hmmm, well the easy answer is that I’m not coordinated enough to play any other sport. The deeper more philosophical answer is that it is the most relaxing mind cleansing activity I’ve found, after a long stressful day nothing beats a nice run.
Q:Where is your favorite place to run in the Springs?
A:I’m always checking new stuff out, but for some reason Section 16 is one of my favorite places to run, it’s a nice mix of terrain, there’s not a ton of people and my first summer here I ran it nearly everyday (mostly because I didn’t know of any other places to run) so it will always be special to me.

Maddy

AKA: The Madster

Q:What’s your story?
A:I’m a Colorado Springs native, and started working at the CRC for a summer job 2 summers ago. (My cousin) Jillian had been working there for a year or so, and told me they were looking for someone to run the register during the busy summer months. I knew absolutely nothing about running or running shoes, but somehow managed to learn the ropes pretty fast, and now here we are 2 years later… I’m running, fitting people for shoes, and livin’ the dream.
Q:Why do you run?
A:Any running I do tends to just be for the fun of it. I firmly believe that if running isn’t fun in at least some aspects, then you shouldn’t be doing it. I also run so I can eat more. Let’s be honest.
Q:Where is your favorite place to run in the Springs?
A:It’s hard to say where my favorite places to run are… I enjoy the loop around Rampart Reservoir (although it’s been a while since I’ve done it) and running in The Garden. It can be hilly and aggravating at times, but somehow it keeps me coming back (and it’s easy to get to from my house).

AlexAlex

AKA: Saint Nicolas

Q:What’s your story?
A:I ran my first marathon when I was 13 and never looked back. Where else would I end up but Colorado Running Company?
Q:Why do you run?
A:I love competition and I want to stay fit my whole life. It seems like running is one of the few endeavours that accomplishes both of those things. I can go for a run pretty much anytime anywhere, with minimal “gear” required. There aren’t a whole lot of other sports that’s true for.
Q:Where is your favorite place to run in the Springs?
A:The Bear Creek Canyon area south of Pikes reigns supreme in my hierarchy of Springs running. It’s got steep climbs, aspen groves, good views, but best of all fewer people then most Colorado Springs areas.

AKA: Danzo

Q:What’s your story?
A:A long time ago, in a galaxy…oh, right. MY story. I moved to Colorado in 2006, and started running around the same time. A few of my friends ran for the CRC team, and so I started buying my shoes here. Then one day, John offered to pay me. I accepted.
Q:Why do you run?
A:Cause it’s fun, I get a ton back from it, and I’m super fast. Two of those two things are true
Q:Where is your favorite place to run in the Springs?
A:Barr Trail when I want a challenge, and Santa Fe when I don’t. A more general answer would be “Anywhere not paved.”

Beth

AKA: The Duchess or D

Q:What’s your story?
A:I’m originally from upstate New York (just north of New York City), and spent 8 years in Savannah, Georgia before moving out here in 2007. I’ve been a runner for 17 years and when the economy tanked, I lost my design job. I ended up at CRC to make ends meet, and I have met so many great people and most of my local friends from my short retail jaunt there. Although I have moved on from the retail side of things and back into a corporate design career now, I still enjoy creating whatever marketing and design needs CRC has – it always comes straight from my heart and of course involves both passions: art and running.
Q:Why do you run?
A:I don’t just run, I tri. ;-) However, I am active because it feeds my soul. It is my rock, my stress relief, and my therapist. Running has always been my first love, and the reason I usually use is this: I run because for a split second neither of my feet touch the ground. Therefore, I don’t just run, I fly. The faster and longer I run, the more I fly. Today, I didn’t just run. I flew… And besides that… how else is a girl gonna keep her figure?
Q:Where is your favorite place to run in the Springs?
A:I have to pick ONE? I’d have to say it’s a toss up between Section 16 and Red Rock Canyon…they are never crowded, have amazing views, and I can run to either from my house – best part about both!

Nic

AKA: Chips m’Ahoy

Q:What’s your story?
A:I am a UCCS student and Colorado Springs native. I ran for Coronado High school and at the University of North Texas. I am studying Geography and Environmental Studies.
Q:Why do you run?
A:I am genuinely at peace with my thoughts and feelings while on my feet in nature.
Q:Where is your favorite place to run in the Springs?
A:Barr Trail, Palmer Park, Cottonwood Creek Park

Kelly

AKA: kphil

Q:What’s your story?
A:My family moved to the Springs in 2005 after a 10-year stint in the Air Force. I started running shortly after and haven’t looked back. I shopped at CRC when they opened the north location and knew Sonal well enough to ask if they were hiring. Turned out they needed some help and here I am.
Q:Why do you run?
A:Started out as a way to stay fit. Turned into much more that that. I am a better wife, mother and friend when I run. Also, a little competition is good for the soul.
Q:Where is your favorite place to run in the Springs?
A:Black Forest, Falcon Trail, Fox Run

Jenn

AKA: Jumbo Jen

Q:What’s your story?
A:Originally from Indianapolis, IN. I lived there my whole life and couldn’t be happier to get out of that state and live in beautiful Colorado Springs! I graduated from Purdue University with a degree in health and fitness. I also ran cross country and track there. Running has always been and will always be a huge part of my life and I’m so happy to be involved with the running community in the Springs!
Q:Why do you run?
A:When your an uncoordinated, 4 foot tall, 60lb middle schooler there aren’t many options other than running. So, to satisfy my competitive nature I started cross country and track. I ended up being pretty good at running and then it grew into something that I love to do. Who knew my long spider legs could get me to where I am today?!
Q:Where is your favorite place to run in the Springs?
A:Really anywhere in the Springs is better than running in Indiana, but my favorites are Stratton open space, red rocks, Black Forest regional park, and the Santa Fe trail for some faster workouts!

Randi

AKA: MtnMama

Q:What’s your story?
A:I am a married mother of one and I help run a kicka@# non-profit called UpaDowna which encourages folks of all ages to enjoy the outdoors! I am a native of Colorado Springs who loves any and everything outside. Oh, I also do not own a TV or a microwave! Crazy, I know!
Q:Why do you run?
A:So I can wear CRC gear that reads: “Does this shirt make my butt look fast?” But seriously, I love jumping over rocks, roots and streams in the forest during a trail run.
Q:Where is your favorite place to run in the Springs?
A:Barr Trail, North Cheyenne Canyon and Garden of the Gods
